I first wrote about the designs of Kata Szegedi back in December, specifically for her graphic shapes and sharp angles. When she emailed me her newest SS10 creations, I was blown away by the departure from enhanced silhouettes and her new focus on negative space. Her collection is based on cut away shapes, fabric linked like chains, and pattern illusion. For these pieces, skin (or what's not there) plays just as much as an integral part as the material itself. Kata's clothing is always touching to me - a completely different feeling than the rush of a flavor of the week trend-based item. I believe the phrase "future classics" that I applied to her previous collection still runs strong with the SS10 as well - I can't wait to see what she does next.
Just an ikat printed pant? Think again - disguised within the pattern are sheer section and even subtle cut outs
